Digital Photography collage: July, August, Septemper 2009

What's that saying? The hurried-er I go the behind-er I get? I am woefully behind on my monthly collage page. I have been doing these for 3 years now, one a month with a few favorite photos and a couple lines about what was going on at the time. Kind of a digital journal, although my plan is to have them bound into a book in 5 year increments. Here is July, August and September for 2009. As always, the whole collection can be seen in the gallery. I'll catch up and get back to doing one a month when the stories are still fresh in my head. Do you do any sort of storytelling using words and photos (or other art and words?) Do share!

Wenatchee photography + design: Love is in the air

I love all the pink and red and hearts and love and goodness that starts to show up around Valentines Day. Maybe it's the color combination? The sentiment, of course, but there is something else that draws me to it. I wanted to offer a few designs as prints, as well as on other merchandise, (t-shirts, cards, postcards, magnets, etc.), so have uploaded a couple of my recent illustrations where I normally sell prints. I'll continue to add to them as I create things. There are many options, sizes and products available, and most of them allow for customization of the text and color as well, to make it truly personal.

Also available is one of my earlier illustrations from last year, the "Just be you" butterfly print. More about it here.

A couple different variations below. They one on the left I am hanging in my house. All the members of my family contribute to my happiness so those are the names I used. On the right, my brother's family, consisting of all boys, save for my sister-in-law. On this one I included their beloved pets. Love this design, so versatile, fresh and modern. I also had the pink one, above right, made into beautiful square cards. Will photo and post those when they arrive.

Wenatchee area photography: Palisades

Watching "Dusk til Dawn" and editing a few photos from earlier today. One of my favorite cult-classic movies. Has George Clooney ever looked better? Seriously, I think not!

We took a drive this afternoon since the weather is so unseasonably warm ('ish). Drove through the Palisades, which are dark basalt cliffs that form a canyon in Eastern Washington. Very stark and steep and beautifully barren. From there you climb up and out onto the plateau (about 10 miles is dirt/gravel only), down into Waterville, further down to get back to the Columbia and back to Wenatchee. A loop which takes about 2 hours total. The late afternoon light was golden and gorgeous and added that little je ne sais quoi to such a windswept area. Totally relaxing way to spend the afternoon and it beats doing laundry hands down.

Wenatchee photographer: Teen tattooed

My oldest daughter turned 18 and wanted to get a tattoo. While this may or may not be something everyone thinks is OK for their kids, I have no problem with it. I am extremely happy that my older daughters make such good choices in life that despite all the normal temptations available to teens, all I literally have had to worry about is the fact that they each want a tattoo. Neither smoke, drug or drink and are even pretty serious with their hearts (ie: they don't date a lot of guys) so honestly, if a tattoo was my biggest concern by the age of 18, I think I have pretty good kids. They do have to be over 18 though. Anyway, Shade waited patiently and at almost 19 she got a tattoo of a flock of birds flying up across her shoulder blade. There are 7 birds, one for each member of her family, in age order.

Of course, I HAD to be there to document the event. Oh, and as long as I was there, I also got one. My third one, it features 3 beautiful bluebirds, one for each of my daughters.

Unrelated to the tattoo, I saw at the I [heart] faces website that two of my images entered into their logo contest placed in the top 10! The sweatshirt/sunglasses one tied for 5th and the painting on the knee came in 8th. Pretty cool, there were so many awesome entries.
