Much thanks to Tara Whitney for her tip on shooting in natural light (in the house). Indy, insisting, "NO, I'm NOT sleepy" and then, promptly, falling asleep on the couch. Love the soft, cozy, yellowish cast. (the B&W was filtered with red to downplay the eczema on the back of her arms. other than that, these are straight off the CF card.)

it will find YOU

The Be Good Tanya's, Antigone Rising, A Salty Piece of Land (audiobook), the June 2004 issue of Living Etc, a fat black Sharpie and the network going down at my husband's (and, thus mine) office. These are the things I'm thankful for this week. All have made it possible for me to get my mojo back and open my mind to new possibilities. With them I was able to not only complete, but feel 100% happy and confident with, my 5 layouts for the MM Masters constest. Reminder: inspiration is best received when you aren't looking for it. Relax, and it will find YOU.
Happy Friday, friends.

aahhhh, so sweet

My oldest 2 daughters spend most of the summer about 3 hours away from me with their Dad. I'm never quite comfortable with them gone, but know its important. Today I was cleaning and came across an activity booklet belonging to my 12-year-old from a program she attended called I'm going to college. They were asked to write about their role model. This is what I found:

My role model would have to be my mom cause she is the coolest mom in the whole wide world. In her words "Carsey you're just like me only better," but I'm not better, my mom is better! My mom will always be my role model and there's nothing you can say to change that! :)

How cool is that?

hardly worth mentioning

two things grossed me out today. well, one gross and one odd enough. Odd is usually good in my book, so I'll start there. latest issue of STEP magazine (graphic design) lists downright weird museums. museums of toilets (i'm not kidding), museums of toilet paper (no relation to the toilet museum) and a museum of human hair. yes, (slowly) a museum of human hair boasting more than 2,500 artifacts made of hair. what this really did was make me feel OK about the growing collections of stuff that is seeming to grow in my studio/space. I can't seem to throw much away because when I look at it, I don't see what it is, but what it can be. you know what they say: one man's trash...

gross is the man who makes (i'm so sorry to even say this) vomit paintings. yes, you read right. he ingests food coloring, vomits it back up, ON COMMAND, onto canvases. smears it around with his hands and voila: there is "art". OK, unfair of me to put "art" in "quotes", but really, is he serious or is he making a statement about ART? the absolute worst part of this bizarre item is that I saw it on TV. meaning, his fire is being fueled to continue. hmmm, lemme' see, poverty, crime, injustice, all needing IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, or, no, wait, I know, lets put the vomit painting man on TV!
jerks.

Write something, they say

I had an assignment of sorts at scrapsahoy.com to write an essay. Well, an article really, on photography "tips". So I sat down and wrote. And wrote. And wrote. Found that writing, even the most how-to'ish type thing, can be very theraputic. Brings stuff into focus, sorts it out without you even know its going on. Sort of a win-win situation. Maybe I help someone and in the process, I help me. I got to remember what I didn't know I had forgotten and in the remembering, realized I hadn't forgotten after all (?!). KWIM? Life is like that. Its all there, tucked inside, waiting to be recalled. And this is why I scrapbook. Someday I'll need help remembering what I thought I forgot and in my pages and journals and albums I'll see it and remember.
